New Zealand Cinema (finally) Comes of Age!

Later this month a true Down Under horror film hits the big screen and it's all about killer sheep. With its population of just over 4 million people and 40+ million sheep this is a Kiwi's worst nightmare come to life. Thanks to Weta Digital it's about as real as you can get. At least we can get even, order NZ lamp chops next time you're eating out ...

Check out the user submitted jokes section:
Q: Why do Scotsmen wear kilts?
A: Sheep can hear zippers.

Everybody seems to have forgotten that this is NOT a new idea. Sometime in the 1970's there was a serious (and spooky) NZ made for TV movie where the sheep decided to fight back. I cannot recall the title.

I remember it well. After a bit of searching at the NZ Film Archive, I found the film: "THE LAMB OF GOD" (1985 29 mins.) Film : F5661, Directed by Costa Botes. "In a country where sheep out number humans by 22 to 1, the stage is set for a take-over by the sheep. After a night of terror, the familiar regime is overthrown. A story of treachery and betrayal is triggered, as people adjust to the new power reality."

Although it was hard to be genuinely scared by such a premise, there was a rather creepy scene of these farming folk trapped inside a garage as the revenge-seeking sheep rampaged outside. All you could see was exaggerated shadows, and the solid steel garage door being mercilessly battered from the outside. It sent shivers down my spine ...
